Hi, please introduce yourself and your business.

Hey, I am Sophie, the owner of The Cranky Leprechaun. 


Why did you start crafting business and how does your passion still drive your business today?

I didn’t actually mean to start selling. I started crafting in 2018 as a tool to help coping with severe depression and anxiety. Slowly things grew from there. I started with tees and hoodies. I grew into tumblers out of a desire to learn and a passion for glitter. I have never been artistic so when I found I had a knack for it I was rather impressed. I am learning everyday. Always looking for inspiration and new techniques. 

At what point did you realize this is what you wanted to pursue and that the potential to make a living from it was there? 

It kind of took care of itself. We decided last September to invest in stock and equipment for me to take on running a tumbler business. So far it has been a success. I started with one turner and now I have 16. I run 8 almost everyday and always have custom orders on the go. 


Was there a turning point or what made you want to switch this from a hobby to more of a business?

As I am a full time psychology student my business growing meant more breathing space for us financially. This allows me to replace my previous income and still pursue my degree in clinical psychology. 


What brought you to selling your products with Handmade Saskatchewan?

I approached Janelle late last year because I wanted to be more involved with other local handmade Businesses. I saw it as an opportunity and so grateful it has worked out very well for me. 

What do you attribute your success to?

Luck! [chuckles] I have spent 12 years working customer service related jobs so I’m pretty good on that side of business, which helps. Although I am not perfect.


If you could speak face to face with yourself when you first started, what pearls of wisdom would you impart?

Get a better vacuum, wear old clothes and premium glitter makes all the difference. 


What new products have you been working on? Any you would like to highlight?

I just finished a very busy Father’s Day rush so I have been working on mostly custom orders. I will hopefully be getting pre-made and ready to sell orders ready during the summer for the busy Christmas season.  


How has the pandemic affected your business?

I have been as busy with my business as it is luckily mostly online.
