Hi, please introduce yourself and your business.
My name is Brooklyn and my husband is Jesse and we own JB Custom Creations in a small town in southern Saskatchewan. We create wood home decor- signs, shelving, growth charts and more!
Why did you start crafting business and how does your passion still drive your business today?
Our shop started out in the fall of 2018, mainly because 4/5 kids started school full time and I needed something to fill my days. It all started out with snowmen and scarecrows which has now expanded to so much more. I love working with people to create what their vision is for their homes. Being apart of special moments such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc. is truly a pleasure!
At what point did you realize this is what you wanted to pursue and that the potential to make a living from it was there?
Our first tradeshow show was in December 2018 and that is when I realized we could potentially make a living on our hobby.
Was there a turning point or what made you want to switch this from a hobby to more of a business?
Again, our first tradeshow in December 2018. Hearing people talk about our product and seeing people purchase warmed my heart and made me realize, “this could actually be something!”
What brought you to selling your products with Handmade Saskatchewan?
I’ve (Brooklyn) known Janelle for quite a few years and I knew I could trust my product being in her store. I’m back to working a full time job and doing our business during my days off and evenings. I still wanted to be able to create items but didn’t have the time to showcase them in tradeshows as often so I figured, why not have them in the Handmade Sask store- best decision I’ve made!
What do you attribute your success to?
Our kids, family and customers! We’ve had so much support from people around us that we can’t say thank you enough!
If you could speak face to face with yourself when you first started, what pearls of wisdom would you impart?
Be patient and believe in yourself. It takes time and it’s not going to be easy right off the hop. Failure is not an option!
What new products have you been working on? Any you would like to highlight?
Were currently working on a new floral collection. Most of our signs include words and sayings but we’ve decided to add a few new items with just images- stay tuned!
How has the pandemic affected your business?
We’ve stayed steady. Mother’s Day/Father’s Day kept us on our toes with custom pieces.
Thank you for your time! Any last closing comments?
Thank you to everyone who supports local. We appreciate your support and look forward to continuing to work with you on creating your visions!
